2016 November Wrap-Up & December TBR

I'll be honest, the month of November was a hard month here in the U.S. In my opinion, we elected someone that is really not fit to be president, and we'll have to deal with the consequences for many years to come. I didn't really feel like reading this month, but I got to seven books.

The first book I read in November was the incredible Still Life With Tornado by A.S. King. I actually wasn’t even anticipating of reading this book this year, but on a whim I bought it with a Barnes & Noble gift card. I started reading it soon after it arrived at my house, and my mind was blown. It was incredible, and I really liked that it didn’t have a romance in it, but purely focused on our main character, Sarah. 5 stars.

Next I read Lily and Dunkin, the first middle grade novel I’ve read in years. Donna Gephart, the author, actually reached out to me and sent me this book with no strings attached. She didn’t even expect a review. For the most part, I did enjoy this book, especially because it offered two perspectives that aren’t usually written. 4 stars.

I read A Million Worlds With You when the election hit. This was the book I was reading for Teenreads.com this month, and had to have read it and have a review for it by the eleventh. Luckily, I made the deadline, but only because I read it all and wrote the review the day of the deadline. It honestly was really hard to focus on anything after the election. 3 stars.

Next I read A Million Worlds With You cover’s twin, The Sun Is Also A Star. This book gives me hope, and at the same time, it doesn’t. I still can’t decide if I liked the ending, but I do know that it addressed some pretty important topics surrounding immigration that will definitely be hot topic with the new president. I flew through this novel, and enjoyed it all together. 4 stars.

The Half Bad trilogy is one I’ve been reading for the last year and a half, and
I finally finished it in November with Half Lost. Even though I only read the previous book in July, it did take me a while to fully remember the story. When I did, I really loved the story. It took a completely different angle from the last two, and I was fairly satisfied with the ending. 3 stars.

It took me awhile to get through Three Dark Crowns. Like, six days. That’s almost a week. I just couldn’t get into this novel for a long time. When I did, it was great and took some cool turns, but it took some time. This is a dark fantasy that is told from the perspective of three young queens, all competing for the same throne. I did like it enough that I will be reading the sequel when it comes out. 3 stars.

Lastly, I read Frozen Tides, the fourth book in the Falling Kingdoms series. I originally loved the Falling Kingdoms series, but for some reason, did not want to pick this one up. After sitting on my shelf for three months, I finally picked it up, and actually enjoyed it. It didn’t have the magic that the first couple had it, but overall it was a good read. 4 stars.

Last month, I had a fairly short TBR. I think it was only three book or so. Two of them, I couldn’t even get through because I thought they were so bad. Still, I have some reading goals for this month that I want to accomplish.

I am a big fan of Trevor Noah, and until recently didn’t even know he released a memoir, which I guess is okay since it only released in November. Sometimes I do reviews for my local librarian, and they told me that if I wrote a review for Born A Crime, I’d be able to get a gift card from them. So, this is definitely on the list.

When I first read Throne of Glass, I wasn’t too thrilled about it. But, as time has gone on, I the story has grown on me, but I didn’t want to put the second one, Crown of Midnight, on hold at the library. However, it was just there one day, so I picked it up and am actually excited to read it.

When Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children first came out in 2012, I read it and loved it. Right now, I don’t remember anything from it, besides the basics of the plot. This month my book club is watching the movie adaptation, and I might re-read the book to be refreshed of the story. However, it won’t be a big disappointment if I don’t get to it.
