2017 December Wrap Up + 2018 January TBR

In the month of December I had a lot of downtime and read a total of 7 books. I also was able to add over 50,000 words to my novel, which was great. Here are my opinions on all the books I read!

Eliza and Her MonstersThe first book I finished in December was Eliza and Her Monsters. I took a gamble on this book since I wasn’t sure if I would like it and ultimately I have some mixed feelings about this book. The story was compelling enough, but I didn’t really like the way mental illness was handled. I gave it 3 Stars.

I was in a little bit of a reading slump after that last book so I picked up Release by Patrick Ness. There are two parts of this book: the story of Adam and his romantic relationships and then a paranormal story about a girl who was murdered in Adam’s hometown. While I enjoyed Adam’s part, I did not enjoy the other and gave it 3 Stars.

Next I picked up Saga: Volume 1 as a quick read since it’s a graphic novel. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about this series so I decided to try it out. I found the first half to be confusing and the second half to be less so but still not enjoyable. There was also the use of disability related slander words which I was not a fan of. I gave it 2 Stars.

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda was the only audiobook I  listened to in the month of December and I’m glad it was. Whoever read this was fantastic and matched the hilarious tone of this book. I also super enjoyed most of the characters and the honesty that this book encased. I gave it 4 Stars.

I loved A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab to its core. This is the third in the Shades of Magic trilogy, which I’ve had problems with in the past. However, this book completely blew my mind. I was in awe of the whole world and plot and loved that we got more back story of one of the main characters. 5 Stars, of course.

The last book I read in December was Blue Lily, Lily Blue, the third book in The Raven Cycle. I have been really enjoying this series so far but this was definitely my least favorite. I felt that this book had a bunch of unnecessary plot line and disconnected to the characters. I’m still going to continue on and finish the series soon, but this was a 3 Star book for me.

I am starting my second term of college soon, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have to read this month. I already finished one book and am in the middle of one that I’m loving, so it feels like a good reading month so far. However, I don’t have a big TBR and instead plan on reading what I want to in the moment.

Heartless is the one book I know I’ll  be reading this month. I have not been a fan of Marissa Meyer’s books in the past, but right now I’m listening to this one and like it. Hopefully, my opinion doesn’t change too much throughout the book.
